NEW AITECH SBC MAXIMIZED FUNCTIONALITY AND POWER WITH INDEPENDENT DUAL PROCESSORS, DISTRIBUTED ARCHITECTURE
Chatsworth, CA, January 2007 – Aitech Defense Systems, the world's first and largest independent manufacturer of board nad subsystem level products for harsh environment defense, aeropsace and astronautics applications, now offers a rugged 6U VME single-slot single board computer (SBC) that maximizes functionality and power by incorporating dual processors that operate independently of one another, yet communicate over a high speed PCI-X interconnecting bus.
The new C102's processors use an asymmetrical distributed architechture so that each of the processing nodes functions as a complete subsystem complete with local memory resources and basic I/O interfaces, eliminating data flow bottlenecks. The C102 improved processing power and I/O functionality make it ideally suited to function in harsh environment applications such as mission management computers, heads-up display controllers, radar and sonar processors, and advanced IED automatic protection subsystems.
The C102 provides an easy migration path for applications employing the latest in PowePC technology, while maintaining investements in older systems. It is VME64x compliant, maintaining full compliance with legacy VME64x VMEbus backplanes, and supports advanced VME protocols such as 2eSST and 2eVME.
Also available in single processor confiigurations, the C102 is fully backward compatible with Aitech's previous line of C10x PowerPC SBCs to maintain previous software investments. In single processing mode, the C102s secondary processing node operates as a simple PCI-PCI bridge, enabling the primary processor to access and control all I/O devices on the entire board, including MIL-STD-1553B, as well as the USB port and the second PMC slot. Since the secondary processor node's internal devices become subordinate, the board can then offer additional channels such as a Gigabit Ethernet channel, a Fast Ethernet channel, and high-speed serial channel and additional serial channels, for exceptional flexibility.
The C1012 incorporates one or two high performance PowerPC G4+ MPC7448 processors operating at 1.42 GHz that feature on-chip 32 Kb L1 and 1MB L2 caches. The board provides up to 2GB of DDR SDRAM with ECC, 256KB of NVRAM, up to 256 MB of Boot Flash memory and up to 1GB of User Flash memory (512MB per processor node), as well as up to 16GB of NAND on-board Flash file memory for mass storage.
In addition, the C102 features four Ethernet ports (two 10/100/1000 GbE and two fast 10/100 ports), two USB 2.0 ports, one Serial ATA II port, and two dual redundant MIL-STD-1553B ports, as well as six high speed USART sychronous/asynchronous and 2 UART serial ports, 16 TTL/eight differential, user programmable discrete I/O lines and two PMC modules. The C102 also features eight high performance DMA engines, eight 32-bit timers, an avionics style watchdog mission safety timer and a real time clock.
The C102's extensive firmware inlcudes start up firmware (boot software), an AIMon monitor/debugger tool, and AIDiag diagnostic toll and BIT (Built In Test) firmware that can be executed during power up or after the board has been booted Board support packages (BSPs) are available for several real time operating systems (RTOS) inlcuding WindRiver VxWorks and Green Hills Integrity. the BSPs which include drivers fo all on-board resources are availble for other RTOSs upon request.
The C102 is available in both conduction- and air-cooled models, per IEEE 1101.2 and ANSI/VITA 1-1994 specification, respectively.
